Leitorado Brasileiro: Research and Transfer

The Leitorado Brasileiro aims to inspire students at Heidelberg University to pursue Brazilian studies through research-oriented teaching and transfer-oriented events. The research and teaching network of the university is used and expanded in order to combine study contents from language, literature, culture, and translation studies and research topics of foreign language didactics, multilingualism, and intercultural language mediation.

Teaching at the Leitorado Brasileiro is oriented towards language contact in the Portuguese-speaking world and aims to attract students to the study of the Brazilian language and cultures at Heidelberg University at an early stage, thus providing the foundation for their own future research.

Another research focus of the Leitorado Brasileiro is the development of teaching materials for the teaching of Portuguese as a foreign and heritage language. This enables cooperation with other research projects not only within, but also beyond Heidelberg University on the topic of the didactics of foreign language teaching.

Events such as lectures, panel discussions, and workshops on linguistics and cultural studies complement the course offerings. These offer students the opportunity to work scientifically on topics related to Brazil and promote contact between students and scientists.
