University Translation Project for Pequeno Manual Antirracista

The translation project was developed as part of the university course Antirracismo e Sociedade (I and II) during the winter semester of 2023/2024 and the summer semester of 2024 at Heidelberg University. The project was initiated and led by Brazilian lecturer Dr. Marília Pinheiro Pereira and Portuguese instructor and translator Dr. Rosa Rodrigues.

The book Pequeno Manual Antirracista by Brazilian philosopher and author Djamila Ribeiro falls within the fields of sociology and politics and is considered one of the most significant contemporary publications on the topic of anti-racism in Brazil. It is aimed at readers who wish to explore structural racism, regardless of their prior knowledge.

The book comprises an introduction and eleven chapters. As part of the university project, it was partially translated into German collaboratively by the participating students and subsequently linguistically revised and finalized by the project leaders. The German edition is expected to be published in October 2026 by W_orten & Meer. Here is the publisher’s preview for 2026
