Leitorado Guimarães Rosa: Research and Transfer

The Leitorado Brasileiro Guimarães Rosa aims to inspire students at Heidelberg University to pursue Brazilian studies through research-oriented teaching and transfer-oriented events. The research and teaching network of the university is used and expanded in order to combine study contents from language, literature, culture, and translation studies and research topics of foreign language didactics, multilingualism, and intercultural language mediation.

Teaching at the Leitorado Brasileiro Guimarães Rosa is oriented towards language contact in the Portuguese-speaking world and aims to attract Heidelberg University students to the study of the language and cultures of Brazil at an early stage, thus providing a foundation for their own future research.

Another research focus of the Leitorado Brasileiro Guimarães Rosa is the development of materials for teaching Portuguese as a foreign and heritage language. This enables cooperation with other research projects on the topic of the didactics of foreign language teaching not only within Heidelberg University but also beyond.

Events such as lectures, panel discussions, and workshops on linguistics and cultural studies complement the course offerings. These offer students the opportunity to work scientifically on topics related to Brazil and promote contact between students and scientists.
